HELENA "LENA" ELIZABETH HEFFKEN 2, (WILHELM 1) was born April 18, 1889 in Oberhausen, West Germany, and died August 28, 1970 in Nelsonville, Ohio [Nelsonville Hospital]. She married FRED LEAKE March 04, 1906 in Athens County, Ohio, son of ROBERT LEAKE and AMY MINGUS. He was born May 31, 1884, and died November 08, 1960 in Columbus, Ohio [University Hospital].

She was my Great Grandmother and although I remember her well this photo does not look the way I remember her.

She was a lover of children and every time we would go to visit her she would meet us at the door with anticipation. As each of us children walked through the door, she would grasp our tiny face with one hand and pull our lips to her cheek so we could kiss her. I can still feel how my lips longed to meet her cheek and would always fall into a wrinkle of her face. Even though I was disappointed at not feeling her cheek with my lips, I always felt the swelling of love and pride that she bestowed on her Grandchildren, G. Grandchildren and G. G. Grandchildren. It spilled out of her overflowing heart.
